Cajun is the music that is played by the French speaking population in the southwestern part of Louisiana. The music has its roots in the French folkmusic and has been taken by French immigrants that came to Louisiana via Nova Scotia in Canada. The music has been influenced by local black Creole, Indian, Spanish and German inhabitants. The result is the very stimulating and characteristic Cajun dance music.
Cajun Comfort plays in a traditional setup from the late 1920's and early 1930's. The instruments are the diatonic Cajun accordeon ('tit noir), fiddle, acoustic guitar, and triangle ('tit fer). The lyrics are sung in Cajun French.
The songs we play are mainly two-steps and waltzes, with an occasional blues (freeze) or one-step for a change. The waltzes give you a chance to catch your breath after dancing the two-steps.
New! At last, we have a fiddler again. Christel joined our band in the past year. See the Bandmembers page. Thank you Bas for the hint!
