Cajun accordions are diatonic (push/pull) accordions, also called French accordion, melodeon, or 'tit noir (and of course "trekzak" in Dutch). It only has 10 buttons for the melody side, and 2 for the basses. So it gives the impression that it is easy to play, which it actually isn't.

During performances and sessions I play on instruments of the brand "Acadian", made by Marc Savoy, in the key of C and D. Apart from being one of the best Cajun accordion builders, Marc is also an excellent accordion player in the "Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band". For me as accordion player, his two CD's in the serie "Back to the Basics" are really great! www.savoymusiccenter.com External

When practicing at home I also play on a Dutch "Van der Aa" accordion, made by Frans van der Aa. It sound a bit softer, which my family members prefer, and not only in the evenings. www.accordionmaker.com External
